#8 Background's Sunday: Your Weekly Moment is Here!
New article at Background Mag!
Hey, Happy Sunday!
Let’s talk about risks. When was the last time you took a risk that made your heart beat faster? And how did you feel after doing it? How many times did you think about the risks of that decision going wrong before making it?
Taking risks is an inherent part of life. To win, you first need to lose and to lose, you first need to take some kind of risk.
Today, we have an article that perfectly encapsulates this message. Written by Carloncho Guerra, and titled “Exploring the Miyar Valley”, it recounts the adventurous journey of Carloncho, Aztlan Medio, and Lucas Alzamora as they open unexplored climbing routes in India. Just imagine the risks they took to get there!
This time we don’t have a song, we have an entire Tiny Desk for you to join your coffee and this article. Click on the image below and start your Sunday trip!
What if he falls?
In 2017, when Alex Honnold made his stunning free-solo ascent of Yosemite’s El Capitan, he was taking an unimaginable risk: nearly three thousand feet of climbing without any ropes or safety equipment.
But was the climb made even riskier by the filmmakers who accompanied him? In “What if He Falls?” filmmakers Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin take us inside the process of documenting Honnold’s quest for climbing glory — and the ethical calculus of filming a friend who could, with the slip of a finger, plummet to his death.
What if you fall?
Carloncho, Alex, Elizabeth, and Jimmy took risks at an extraordinary level, as each of them has confronted death to pursue their objectives and dreams.
So... What about you? Are you taking risks today? If not, will you tomorrow? What if you fall?
