#31 Background's Sunday: Your Weekly Moment is Here!
New article at Background Mag!

Hey there,
In Background, we believe our DNA lives in the intersection of enjoying the planet and protecting it. That’s the heart of what we do — and why we connect so deeply with people and projects that share that mission.
Gauchos del Mar is a perfect example. Brothers Joaquín and Julián Azulay have spent years surfing the most remote corners of the world — always carrying a message of respect and protection for the places they visit.
Now they’re doing it again with Antarctica (premiering August 27), a film that blends surf, science, and a call to action: to declare this vast, fragile continent a network of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). As they remind us in the opening scene, Antarctica is the only place on Earth that belongs to all of us — which means its protection is everyone’s responsibility.
We spoke with them just weeks before the release, diving into what drew them to the southernmost place on Earth, how surfing can be climate activism, what it’s like to navigate and film in such extreme conditions, and what the White Continent is telling us about the state of our planet today.

The Last Ice – National Geographic Documentary Films
While Antarctica focuses on the southernmost frontier, The Last Ice takes us north — to the rapidly melting Arctic. It follows Inuit communities in Canada and Greenland whose culture and survival are tied to the sea ice, showing how climate change isn’t just an environmental crisis, but a human one.
