I was thinking today… When does a story really begin? All the travels we've made, all the expeditions we’ve set up. What’s the beginning? For Francisco Galeazzi, it started on a couch with a mate in hand, watching a documentary on the Okavango Delta. Three years later, that quiet moment led him to Botswana, to the heart of one of Africa’s most biodiverse regions, where he followed the daily rhythm of rescued elephants and the woman who cares for them.

There were early mornings, prayers before feeding, long walks through the bush. The elephants decided the pace — when to eat, when to rest, when to play. Some days were full of joy. Others were heavy. He joined a rescue mission that lasted days and didn’t end as hoped. There was waiting, hoping, silence. And then, loss.

He writes about watching stars by the fire, about laughter with strangers who became friends, about feeling small in the best way. “Having a camera is a kind of power” he says. “But sometimes the most important thing is just to be there.”
