#27 Background's Sunday: Your Weekly Moment is Here!

New article at Background Mag!

Hey there,

Hope all is well out there!

In our last piece, we asked: how often do we really think about the places we love to enjoy? And more importantly, do we recognize ourselves as part of the nature we claim to care for?

This new story is not just a follow-up. It’s a deeper reflection on something we truly believe in: real transformation starts within ourselves.

We’re not going to protect the planet by staying on the sidelines. We need to connect. With nature, yes — but also with ourselves and with others. It doesn’t just happen. It takes time, attention, presence.

That’s why we admire projects like ReforestArg, an Argentinian organization working to restore native forests — and to grow something just as urgent: conscious, committed humans.

We sat down with its founder, Tobias Merlo, to talk about how it all started, how they’re redefining environmental activism, and what’s next in the fight to regenerate both nature and society.

We really hope you take a moment to read it. It’s more than an article. It’s an invitation to slow down and reflect.

If you want to understand what’s really at stake in the battle over public lands, start here.

Film

In this article we talked about reforestation as one way to protect nature. But restoration happens everywhere — and the ocean is no exception.

That’s why we recommend this short film by Patagonia: The Custodians. It follows four locals from the West Coast of Scotland who are reclaiming their coastlines. Through restoring marine life and building sustainable livelihoods, they remind us that we can work with nature — not against it.
